My article isn't on my site

CitedSEO looks for every live article on your site each night. When it can't find one for three days, Needs you says so. Fix what's showing it, then press Check again.

Every night CitedSEO opens each live article at its address on your site, the way a reader would. When it can't find one there for three days, the sidebar's Needs you list says so. The article is still live on your feed. Fix what shows it on your site, then press Check again, and CitedSEO looks again straight away.

How you can tell

Needs you says one of two things, naming the article (or how many):

  • "Your blog at example.com/blog isn't loading". Your blog's own page doesn't load either, so no article under it can be read. Usually the path in Settings › Site details › Where articles go doesn't match where your site shows articles, or nothing on your site reads the feed yet. Fix the path, or add one of the SDKs to your site (see Publish from your own code).
  • "… isn't on your site". Your blog loads, but not this article. If your site is built ahead of time (a static site), it shows a new article only after it's rebuilt: add a webhook in Settings › Webhooks that starts a rebuild. On WordPress, check the post is still published.

The article's label in Articles reads Not on your site in place of Published meanwhile. CitedSEO also tells you once, by email and anywhere else you get alerts, unless you turned off Something needs fixing in Settings › Notifications.

What counts as found

The page at the article's address loads and shows the article's title in its HTML. A blog page that only lists the article doesn't count, and nor does a page that draws the article in the browser after it loads (our SDKs draw it on your server, so they're fine). A WordPress post is also found by a mark CitedSEO puts in it, so a post you retitled or moved still counts.

Once an article has been found, CitedSEO looks again about once a week. The first time it finds the article again, Needs you clears on its own.
