Every article has a byline: a person you add in Settings › Authors, or your site. You don't need any authors. With none, articles go out under your site's name. Add an author and star them as the default, and each new article goes out under them instead.

Authors only change the byline. They don't change what CitedSEO writes about, its voice or what needs your OK.

Settings › Authors: your site's own byline, the list of authors and Add author

Add an author

  1. Press Add author.
  2. Fill in their Name, and if you like a Role (such as Founder), a Bio and Links to their profiles, such as LinkedIn.
  3. Add a photo with Upload photo, or leave it and their initials show.
  4. Press Add author at the bottom of the sheet.

The sheet for a new author: Upload photo, Name, Role, Bio and Links

An author is a real person, whoever they are: a teammate, the founder, a contractor or a pen name. CitedSEO never makes up a face or credentials for them. The photo is a JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 2 MB.

To change an author, press the pencil beside them, edit the sheet and press Save.

The default author

Press the star beside an author to make them the default, marked Default. Each new article goes out under them. Only one author can be the default; press the star again and new articles go out under your site.

An article's byline is set when CitedSEO starts writing it, so changing the default doesn't change articles already written.

How the byline changes an article

  • Where an article speaks for itself, it says "I" under a person's byline and "we" under your site's.
  • CitedSEO never writes an author's credentials from their bio into the article, or claims experience they haven't shown.
  • The article's page in Articles shows the byline at the top, and at the end their photo, name, role, bio and links. With your site as the byline, it shows your site's name and the description from Settings › Business.
  • What CitedSEO sends to your site carries the author's name and their first link, on your feed and in the article's structured data when that's on. The photo shows in CitedSEO only.
  • Editing an author's name or links updates the byline on your feed straight away.

On WordPress

Each byline posts as a WordPress user. Pick one for each author, and for your site's byline, under Authors on the WordPress card in Settings › Publishing. See Connect WordPress.

Archive an author

Open an author and press Archive. Their articles keep their byline, and new articles go out under your default author, or your site. Nothing is deleted.
