What AI visibility measures

Each week CitedSEO asks AI assistants the questions your buyers ask, and shows which answers name your site and which cite it as a source.

AI visibility shows whether AI assistants mention your site and cite it as a source. CitedSEO asks 25 questions your buyers ask in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI every week, saves each answer in full, and shows which ones cite you, which name you without a link, and who they recommend instead.

The top of AI visibility: one sentence summing it up, how many questions cite you against your first check, and each assistant's count

The questions

When you add your site, CitedSEO drafts 25 questions from what your site covers and who you're up against, written the way people ask an assistant. They're grouped by where the buyer is: Learning, Comparing and Choosing. It also drafts more to swap in.

To change them, press Manage questions, which opens Settings › AI visibility. You can swap any question for a suggestion or one of your own. A question you stop keeps its history, and asking it again picks that history back up.

Questions are asked in your site's Search market and Language, set in Settings › Site details. The page says where, for example "Asked in United States, English".

The assistants

How often

The first check runs as soon as your questions are drafted, and the answers start showing within minutes. That first check is your starting point. After it, every question is asked once a week, at your site's own hour. Above the questions, the page says when they were last checked and when they'll be checked next.

Each assistant's answer to a question counts as one of these, as the app says when you point at its logo ("ChatGPT cites you"):

  • "cites you": the answer links to one of your pages as a source. This is what can send visitors.
  • "names you without a link": the answer mentions your site but doesn't link to it.
  • "doesn’t name you yet": neither.

Your questions filtered to Cited: each question with its stage, the page of yours that is cited, each assistant's logo, how many recent checks cited you, and who is cited instead

The questions can be filtered by Cited, Open (nobody is cited yet, so it's open to win) and Others cited. Press a question to read the assistants' saved answers word for word, with the sources each one used.

Who AI recommends is about everyone else in the answers:

  • Brands named: the share of answers that name each brand, you included. These are your real rivals in AI answers. The + beside a brand adds its site to your competitors.
  • Sites cited: how many answers link to each site as a source, tagged as yours, a competitor, or a review site, publisher, community or company.

Your cited pages lists the pages of yours that AI links to, and in how many answers in the latest check.

What CitedSEO does with it

When assistants answer one of your questions citing other sites and not your article that covers it, CitedSEO raises a citation gap in Opportunities: an update to that article, with the pages cited instead as evidence. The question then shows Fix queued. Answers vary from week to week, so watch the trend over several checks rather than one answer.
