WordPress signed CitedSEO out
When WordPress stops accepting CitedSEO's application password, your articles still go live on your feed. Reconnect with a new password and what WordPress missed is sent again.

WordPress refused the application password CitedSEO signs in with, usually because the password was revoked or the user it belongs to changed, or because a security plugin or firewall blocks signed-in requests to WordPress's REST API. To fix it, make a new application password in WordPress, then open Settings › Publishing, press Reconnect on the WordPress card and enter it. Your articles kept going live on your feed meanwhile, and anything WordPress missed is sent again.
How you can tell
- The sidebar's Needs you list says "WordPress signed me out", with "Articles still go live on your feed." Its Reconnect button opens Settings › Publishing.
- In Settings › Publishing, the WordPress card is marked Signed out and says "WordPress stopped accepting the password. Reconnect to keep your posts current."
CitedSEO also tells you once, by email and anywhere else you get alerts, unless you turned off Something needs fixing in Settings › Notifications.
Why it happens
CitedSEO treats WordPress as signed out whenever WordPress answers that it isn't allowed in. That happens when:
- The application password was revoked in WordPress, under Users › Profile › Application Passwords.
- The WordPress user was deleted, or made an author while you had picked other users to post as. Only an editor or administrator can post as someone else.
- A security plugin or firewall turns away signed-in requests to the REST API.
Reconnect
- In WordPress, go to Users › Profile, scroll to Application Passwords and add a new one. Copy it.
- In CitedSEO, open Settings › Publishing and press Reconnect on the WordPress card.
- The Reconnect WordPress dialog has your Site address and Username filled in. Enter the new Application password and press Connect WordPress.
Once WordPress accepts it, every article that didn't reach WordPress is put back in line, and CitedSEO sends them within about 15 minutes. For an article that's already on your WordPress, CitedSEO updates its own post, found by a mark in the post, rather than adding another.
If WordPress turns the new password away
The dialog says why and keeps what you typed:
- "WordPress didn't accept that username and application password. Check both and try again." If both are right, check whether a security plugin or your host's firewall blocks signed-in REST API requests, and let CitedSEO through.
- "Couldn't reach WordPress at … Check the address, and that its REST API is on." A plugin that turns off the REST API can cause this.
