How often AI answers are checked
CitedSEO asks your questions once as soon as they're drafted, then once a week at your site's own hour.

CitedSEO first asks AI assistants your questions as soon as it has drafted them, while it reads your site, and the answers start showing within minutes. After that, it asks every question once a week, at your site's own hour of the week. Above your questions, AI visibility says when they were last checked and when they'll be checked next.

The first check
When you add your site, CitedSEO drafts 25 questions, then asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI every one of them straight away. The page fills in as the answers come back, and while they do, the line above your questions says how many are still to come ("Checking now · 12 answers to come"). The whole check takes a few minutes.
That first check is your starting point. Cited by AI at the top of the page says "Your starting point", and from the next check on it compares with it ("Up from 2 at your first check").
Every week after
Each site has its own hour of the week, so checks are spread across the week. A weekly check starts once your site's hour comes round and no check has started in the six days before it. That means the first weekly check comes one to two weeks after the first check, and until it does, the page says when weekly checks start ("First check Sun, Oct 18 · weekly checks start Fri, Oct 30"). After that, there's a check every week at the same hour.
A weekly check's answers come back over a while, and the page shows "Checking now" with how many are still to come until they're in. An answer that hasn't come back a day after the check started counts as no answer from that assistant.
What doesn't start a check
There's no button to run a check now, and nothing you change starts one:
- A question you add is first asked at your next weekly check. See Change the questions CitedSEO asks.
- A new search market in Settings › Site details is used from your next weekly check, and from then on only checks asked in it are compared. See Set your site details and search market.
Why look at more than one check
AI answers vary from one check to the next, even when nothing about your site changed. Once a question has been checked twice, its row shows how many of its last four checks cited you ("2 of 4 checks"). Pointing at it says so: "Cited in 2 of the last 4 checks. Answers vary from run to run, so the trend matters more than one check."

What else uses the checks
- Citation gaps in Opportunities come from the latest check. See Citation gaps: where AI cites others and not you.
- A change aimed at AI citations is measured at the first check four weeks after it goes live. See How CitedSEO follows a change after it ships.
- Reports for short dates may hold one check or none, and say so rather than showing a change. See Build, download and share a report.
